Alys Fowler to design Physic Garden

We are delighted to announce a new collaboration with gardener, writer and presenter Alys Fowler. The well-known Guardian gardening columnist, television presenter and chair of the Herb Society is bringing her love for canals, women and herbs to Lancashire to design the UK’s first physic garden created with, by and for women, sited in Nelson on the Leeds to Liverpool Canal.

The physic garden will provide a living archive of women’s medicinal plant knowledge. The first phase of this seven year transformation will launch in September 2020.

The Medicine Nursery is a sister site in Accrington that will serve as a practical resource for women who want to get involved in all aspects of cultivating medicinal plants to use and to supply the physic garden.
